Craig Shapiro

Non Executive Director

Craig is a former Treasurer at Macquarie Group, where he had the primary responsibility of funding and liquidity of the Macquarie Group balance sheet. He has worked for Macquarie for 21 years, and is now a Board Member of the Sydney Institute.

Prior to joining Macquarie, Craig worked for the State Bank of NSW and Mitsui Trust Finance Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney, and a Diploma from the Securities Institute of Australia (FINSIA).

Les Szekely

Non Executive Director

Les worked as a solicitor before teaching commercial and revenue law at the University of New South Wales, and Sydney University. He was a tax consulting partner with Horwaths Chartered Accountants for 20 years, until the company merged with Deloitte, when he became Director of Taxation in Deloitte Growth Solutions.

Les is regularly quoted in relation to tax issues in the Australian Financial Review, BRW and other financial media. Les has a B.A and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales, a Masters of Laws from Sydney University, and is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Carlos Gil

CEO & Chief Investment Officer

Carlos is the founder and current CEO of Microequities. He has worked in stockbroking, funds management, and investment research for over 15 years, and has been an individual investor in Australian Microcaps since he was 18 years old.

Carlos has held various senior management positions in Europe, including roles as Head of International Securities at BM Securities, and at Banesto Bank (Santander Group). On his return to Australia, he established Microequities with a single minded vision: to provide quality investment research on Australian Microcap companies. After being Head of Investment Research for five years, he became Chief Investment Officer of Microequities Asset Management in 2008. Carlos is a fervent supporter of Australian Microcap companies and the virtues of long term value investing.

Carlos holds a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and a Master in Applied Finance and Investment Analysis from the Financial Services Institute of Australia (Finsia).

Paul Kaplan

Chief Operating Officer

Paul is a Chartered Accountant with over 15 years of financial services and operational experience. As co-founder of Momentum Corporate, Paul managed the operations of the advisory and funds management business where he also provided strategic and financial advice to private and listed companies. Paul was previously Chief Operations Officer of the Bendon Group, a global apparel retailer and wholesaler. Paul holds a Bachelor of Business Science (accounting and finance majors) and Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from Cape Town University.

Sam Gutman

Executive Director

Sam brings an invaluable pragmatic business experience to the management team, obtained through a successful career in the IT industry. Sam has been a long time personal investor in the Microcap asset class, and adamantly shares the investment philosophy of the Microequities team.

Sam has B.A with major in economics and has a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance & Investments from FINSIA.

Shuo Yang

Portfolio Manager

Shuo is currently responsible for identifying and providing research coverage on undervalued microcap industrial companies. Since starting investing at the age of 16, he has developed a fundamental approach to his analysis of companies in the market and is always on the lookout for new investment ideas.

Shuo holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Economics degree at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and is a CFA Level II holder.

Declan McLenaghan

Investment Analyst

Declan provides research coverage on listed Australian Microcap companies. He previously worked as an analyst at Millinium Capital Managers, where he performed fundamental research on companies in the ASX 200. He has also worked for MF Holdings and Atlantic Pacific Securities.

Declan holds a Bachelor of Business (Finance) from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and has completed all three levels of the CFA Program.

Scott Curtis

Client Relationship Manager

Scott has over 12 years’ experience working in financial services and business development. He was part of New Corp’s commercial team representing Business Spectator, The Australian, Eureka Report and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Prior to that, he was a business development manager at Boardroom Media and part of the operations team at Macquarie Bank and the ASX/Sydney Futures Exchange.  Scott holds a Master’s Degree in Business Strategy from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance & Investments from FINSIA.

Murat Kilic

Client Relationship Manager

Murat has a career spanning over seven years in the financial services industry. He was a relationship manager in Investec’s Private Bank (subsequently divested and renamed Lipman Burgon & Partners) and has also worked for Macquarie Group and AMP.  Murat holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) as well as a Bachelor Degree in Finance, both from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Adam Allcock

Client Relationship Manager

Adam has over six years’ experience in the financial services industry dealing with a range of stakeholders. Prior to Microequities, Adam helped establish distribution for a Perth based Australian equities fund. Before funds management, Adam was part of a team at Macquarie Bank for four years looking after relationships with financial advisers, family offices and accountants across a range of product lines. Adam holds a double degree in Psychology and History from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning.

Eva Lopez-Casero

Marketing Communications

Eva has over 15 years’ experience in communications, events management and public relations. She has worked for PR agencies; public companies and as a media officer for the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF.

For the last seven years, Eva has been focused on financial communications, having worked for an Investor Relations firm before joining Microequities. Eva holds a Degree in Journalism, a Masters in Scientific Journalism, and a Masters in International Communications from Macquarie University Sydney.

Gareth McKay

Fund Accounting Manager

Gareth has extensive experience as an account manager in the financial services industry, having worked for Citco Fund Services Australia in several positions for over 10 years. Before joining Microequities, he was responsible for a team providing outsourced fund accounting and tax services to a range of clients within the Asia Pacific region and across a broad spectrum of fund structures and trading strategies. Gareth holds a Masters of Business from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Macquarie University Sydney.

Fransisca Yunita

Fund Accountant and Administration

Fransisca is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) from CPA Australia. She has over 10 years experience in the financial services industry, having worked for ING Australia, National Australia Bank and most recently The Trust Company, where she was a fund accountant. She has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

Valerie Pao

Fund Accountant and Administration

Valerie holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Macquarie University, Sydney. She has worked as a Client Service Manager for Perpetual Limited and The Trust Company; as well as a Senior Associate in the Relationship Management Group at the Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon) both in Australia and Singapore.
